3D Games on Zune HD At Last
Finally, Microsoft is starting to access that noggin. Firmware update 4.3 was released for the Zune HD a couple of days ago and on Wednesday some 3D games popped up on the Microsoft Marketplace (MS’s iTunes Store). They’re all free, but feature a tiny ad before the game loads. Most impressive appear to be Audiosurf (a music rhythm game) and PGR: Ferrari Edition.
The Tegra GPU inside the Zune HD powers the HD video, so in theory it should also allow for beautiful games that rival graphics on a PSP.
According to Nilay Patel over at Engadget, PGR: Ferrari Challenge looks as good as the visuals on a PSP game. It’s funny how he doesn’t make any comparisons to FerrariGT or Real Racing on the iPhone/iPod touch. Control-wise, the accelerometer does most of the job for PGR.
This is all so exciting. Maybe I might mosey on over to the new Best Buy and see if they have these on the demo units, and finally get to manhandle a Zune HD.
