    Let’s hope cell phones don’t use microUSB, for most of us that is the same problem described, that we then need more chargers as most other devices use miniUSB to recharge.

    So, the only thing that makes sense if the author does care about these issues is stick with all miniUSB, and looking around I have at least 4 of those chargers within arm’s reach. MicroUSB? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

    Now, if we instead want the ideal charger it is something different:

    Two Stainless pads flush with the surface having high iron content. Two-point magnetic charge coupler. No “jack” anymore, it just magnetically attaches and devices needing comm too would PWM a serial signal through the same two pads, or of course just use Bluetooth for higher bandwidth.

    Some would have thought induction charging instead, but it is slower, lower current per volume, bulkier due to needing the big wire loops inside.
