New HD Ready iMacs: 21.5″ & 27″
The much awaited iMac refresh arrived today as well. The fine folks at Cupertino craft a unibody iMac complete with 16:9 display. SD card slot is now thrown into the mix and the back of the iMac is now silver instead of black. Processor upgrades across the board are included and now all iMacs clock in at 3.06Ghz – 3.3Ghz C2D.
The real meat in the iMac is now the high-end. The 27″ beast has a 2.66Ghz Quad-Core i5 processor and a 2.8Ghz Quad-Core i7 processor is available. With the high-end iMacs, who needs that aluminum tower that is a Mac Pro?
Not to be left behind, the iMacs can now act as standalone monitors when you plug in any device presumably through the Mini Displayport. Xbox 360 PS3, and Wii on your iMac? Oh YES. I’d assume you would need the necessary correct adapters and converters to get it working. I’m thinking this would make a great TV when coupled with a TV tuner. This is exactly what I have been waiting for.
